NAESCO Coalitions

NAESCO works with several coalitions committed to implementing federal and state public policy that promotes the value of energy efficiency and the capabilities of the energy services industry. NAESCO believes that the aggregated impact of the work of all of the energy, environmental consumer, and business organizations that belong to the coalitions will help accelerate the achievement of our policy objectives as well as educate legislators, regulators, and customers alike about the many economic benefits created by the widespread deployment of energy efficiency resources.

For your convenience, we are highlighting information you may find useful about the different coalitions of which NAESCO is a part. NAESCO does not necessarily support all of the goals of these coalitions and typically works on specific policy issues with which NAESCO and these other coalitions and groups are mutually interested and engaged. We encourage you to visit these websites to learn more about the federal and state initiatives which are being pursued by NAESCO and these groups in tandem.

National Save Energy Coalition

The National Save Energy Coalition is diverse group of 148 organizations committed to putting into place federal public policies that promote clean, sustainable, efficient energy. The coalition advocates for strong public policies that will help lower consumers' energy costs and create new, well paying green jobs nationwide.

As a member of the coalition, we are actively participating in the current climate and energy legislation advocacy efforts. Just recently, Donald Gilligan, NAESCO's President, provided an in-depth analysis of the Kerry-Boxer Climate Bill, S. 1733 and the Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454 during an educational webinar for over 300 participants outlining the key elements of energy efficiency and renewable energy in the two bills.

Business Council for Sustainable Energy

The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) is an organization dedicated to implementing market-based approaches to reducing pollution and providing a diverse, secure mix of energy resources.

NAESCO participates in the Business Council for Sustainable Energy's efforts to develop effective messaging and the cost-effective use of the media to promote energy and climate change legislation through their "Energy Efficiency Works" campaign. The BCSE coalition recently ran a series of newspaper ads in Pennsylvania, a key swing state in the national energy policy debate, which featured on the people who have gotten good new jobs in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries in the state. NAESCO is supporting this effort by writing and placing interviews with the people featured in the ads.

EERS Coalition

This coalition, coordinated by Jennifer Schafer-Soderman (who also coordinates the Federal Performance Contracting Coalition, is working to establish a national Energy Efficiency Resource Standard. An Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS) would require that all electric utilities procure a minimum percentage of their supply from energy efficiency, which gradually increase to 10% in 2020.

The implementation of a national EERS would result in $168 billion in utility bill savings for American consumers and businesses, 222,000 permanent jobs in construction and other fields, 390 new power plants not constructed and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 48 million cars off the road in 2020.

The main activities of the coalition are direct advocacy with US Senators and their staffs, including "Lobby Day" visits to Senators' offices in Washington or their home states, negotiations with key Senate staffers, and writing letters and position papers in support of the EERS.
