Energy Engineer
The University of Virginia is pleased to invite candidates to apply for the position of Energy Engineer. This position will support the Energy & Utilities Department’s organizational objective to promote sustainability by providing consistent, cost-effective, efficient, reliable, and environmentally-sound review of existing and planned facilities in support of the educational, research, and health care mission of the University. The primary focus of the Energy Engineer will be to support the University’s efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gasses promoting sustainability and identifying and implementing the conservation of energy, water, raw materials and other resources. He or she will be responsible for commissioning, re-commissioning and retro-commissioning new and existing buildings on grounds to identify operational and maintenance improvements. This will be achieved through energy audits and technical analyses, implementing projects, improving O&M, enhancing building automation and energy management systems through field improvements and software programming and ensuring accurate metering and billing.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical abilities including knowledge of high performance HVAC and green building. Demonstrated engineering and energy analysis skills, superior organization skills and effective written and oral communication skills are expected.

Qualifications:
* A bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in engineering required. A bachelor’s degree in related field with significant experience with HVAC/mechanical systems and related controls will be considered in lieu of a degree in engineering. * Experience constructing HVAC/mechanical systems or controls is required. * Demonstrated experience specifying, analyzing, developing, installing or operating EMS/BAS or related systems is preferred. * LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or CEM (Certified Energy Engineer) certification or registration as a professional engineer is preferred. * Experience in educational, research, and/or health care facilities, infrastructure, or systems preferred.
